Firearm Purchase Process

As of December, 2012, I am now able to conduct all background checks for handguns.  All you need to bring is your driver’s license, and we will complete the rest during the transfer.  The 10 day handgun purchase permit issued by your local police department is no longer required when buying from a dealer. NOTE:  If buying from a FFL you must be at least (21) years of age.

The Handgun Purchase From a FFL
Authorized handgun buyers, who are at least twenty-one (21) years of age, are allowed under U.S. Federal Law to purchase a handgun from a FFL. The non MCPL buyer must present the FFL with their proof of residency, and the background check is conducted by the FFL.

Rifle/Shotgun buyers, who are at least eighteen (18) years of age, are allowed under U.S. Federal Law to purchase a long gun from a FFL.  Before the transfer from the FFL to the buyer can occur, a NICS (National Instant Background Check System) check will be conducted by the FFL to determine if the firearm can be transferred immediately to the individual.  Sometimes, especially if you decide not to provide your SSN, the NICS check may require up to a 3 day wait for final approval.  Buyers who possess a current Michigan Concealed Pistol License (MCPL) will not need to have a background check through NICS.
